OUR STORY

My name is Hanka Fišerová, for years I taught piano, music theory lessons and preparatory classes at the music school and conducted the national Effatha Christian choir. Last year, I replied to God's call, finished everything, handed it over and left for a year-long mission trip to Kenya, which followed my two previous visits to the same place - the area around the town of Bondo, western Kenya, just outside of Lake Victoria.

It was all made possible through the help of Pastor Paul, who has worked in the local community for a long time, he has their trust and knows their needs. He has at heart practical help for those in need, but most importantly the spiritual growth of the local community, especially the younger generation.

Out of our collaboration came the idea of doing Christian camps for children and young people in rural Kenya, where they could grow in their relationship with God and at the same time engage in sports and arts activities that they don't have much opportunity to do here. Effatha does something similar musically every summer in Litomyšl, and we have expanded it to include more artistic disciplines. Through the arts, we want to point them to God's character and inspire them to express their own relationship with God and the world around them.

MEET THE TEAM

Our international team is smaller this year as we will be working with a team of local teachers and assistants from Kenya.

We are all volunteers who give our time, finances and effort to the work God has called us to do. We want to share our lives, gifting and experiences of God with the young people.

HANA FIŠEROVÁ

I am a piano and music teacher, involved with Effatha choirs in the past years. I've got the idea of doing ArtCamps in Kenya and after the first attempt last August I've stayed in Kenya for a year. I am looking for why God sent me to Kenya, where and how I can support, encourage, help the local people and youth to live practically in the freedom God offers to us all.

ELIŠKA POLÍVKOVÁ

I teach Czech language, Music and Art at a junior secondary school. After a year, I have the opportunity to go back to Kenya, this time as a co-leader of a craft workshop. Last ArtCamp was a great time (full of challenges!) where we were able to build our first relationships with the Kenyan community. I am happy that this year we can build on last year and especially on Hanky's year-long work with the local people. I am looking forward to working closely with the Kenyan team this year so that we can continue our work with the children after our departure. I look forward to sharing ideas, believing in mutual enrichment and growing together as one church (regardless of geography). May we be able to share the living Christ in an appropriate way.

Hi, I'm Vašek. I'm a musician, teacher and improviser. I enjoy playing different musical instruments and discovering new sounds. I often initiate a common musical creation. Once I see a musical instrument somewhere, I need to play it. I go to Kenya to discover the beauty of God's creation and share the satisfaction of musical creation together with the children. On the ArtCamp I will teach guitar, ukulele and other instruments, and also create various musical arrangements together with children.

Hello, I'm Lizzie! I live in Oxford, England, where I teach Drama, Dance and Singing to children from 4, all the way up to 19 years old. I love my job and can often be found prancing around and singing to myself. Being able to share this joy with the children of Kenya last year was incredible, and I feel very encouraged that we are returning to these same villages to revisit the children and families we met, and to continue the work God has started. He is not finished yet!
